This page contains useful information, documents, web links, and resources for all teachers. This page is non-grade or subject specific. For subject specific pages, click on the content resources button at the right and choose a subject. Each subject area page will be divided into grade appropriate links and resources.

 

General Instructional Resources Web Sites (Student activities, various content area resources, etc.)

  • Brainpop has several short movies that students can view from math, social studies, science, health, and technology.  Each child can watch up to 2 movies per day for free.
  • Brain Connection Brain Connection is a comprehensive Web site that provides useful information about the brain and learning. The site is well organized and provides numerous sections such as "Education Connection," "Brain Teasers," "Library," and "Professional Development." The site also provides a set of useful animations, an outstanding graphics gallery, many learning resources, and an interesting set of brain facts.
  • Dositey.com  Free content on Dositey.com covers a broad array of short, interactive lessons, games, worksheets, puzzles, open-ended problems and other activities for grades K-12 plus sections for teachers and parents. Some fee-based content also available but the majority is free.

General Teacher Resources Web Sites (Lesson Plans, Rubrics, Webquests, Graphic Organizers, Open Response Etc.)

  • Best WebQuests.com With so many pages claiming to be "webquests," it's time for the experts to step in and separate the real webquests from other web-based activities. Look to this site as finding aid and matrix of the best WebQuests arranged by content area and learners' age. You'll be able to read tips on what makes a great WebQuest, submit yours for consideration, and get tips on WebQuest design.
  • Education World Everything from content area resources to lesson plans can be found here.
  • Ed Helper.Com Lesson plans, webquests, worksheets, teacher tools etc.
  • Federal Resources for Educational Excellence FREE is an acronym for the U.S. Department of Education's Federal Resources for Educational Excellence. The site is comprised of 50 federal agencies that supply free materials for educators. Resources at the site include lesson plans, activities, data, primary sources information, photos, and maps on a variety of subject areas.
  • Graphic Organizers Great place to find Graphic Organizers for all subjects and grade levels
  • Graphic Organizers-Everything you need to know about Graphic Organizers along with printable worksheets for Enchanted Learning Members. This site explains all types of graphic organizers in enough detail that even the novice could understand.
  • Globe Teacher Newsletter Newsletter full of resources for all teachers, includes information and web sites for all teachers. Updated frequently, check it often for newly added resources or sign up for their e-mail newsletter.
  • Hot Potatoes Software for Windows. The Hot Potatoes suite includes six applications, enabling you to create interactive multiple-choice, short-answer, jumbled-sentence, crossword, matching/ordering and gap-fill exercises for the World Wide Web. Hot Potatoes is not freeware, but it is free of charge for those working for publicly-funded non-profit-making educational institutions, who make their pages available on the web. Other users must pay for a license. You can use this software to make various formats of online tests.
  • Keep Schools Safe Keep Schools Safe is a resource for helping schools increase their safety. It covers general safety of schools; provides answers to common questions about gangs, violence and aggression in youth; shows students how to deal with common problems such as fighting and bullying; and has hundreds of links to sites dealing with school violence and safety.

  • LessonPlansPage: End of School Lesson Plans Find some great end of school activities at this site.
  • Partnership for Kentucky Schools Contains newsletters covering all academic areas. Provides online resources, software reviews, and content-specific websites for all school teachers.
  • PBS-Teacher Source Having problems developing a lesson plan? At PBS-Teacher Source one only has to select a topic and grade level to find lesson plans for Social Studies. In fact, lesson plans for other subject areas can also be accessed that this site. Furthermore, lessons can be matched to suggested standards by clicking on the section called Standard Match.
  • Project Approach: In Early Childhood & Elementary Education The purpose of this web site is to provide readers with resources to enable them to carry out projects wherever they may work with children. The site is intended to make available some accounts of successful projects undertaken by teachers working with children of different ages and cultures in different parts of the world. The site also offers more formal means of study of the Project Approach through accompanying online courses for teachers.
  • Puzzle Makers-Great for spelling and vocabulary. Create custom puzzles in various formats using your own words.
  • Rubric Builder Build your own rubrics or search for one that someone else has done. You can even clone someone else's rubric and change it for your needs.
  • Rubistar RubiStar is a tool to help the teacher who wants to use rubrics but does not have the time to develop them from scratch. While many teachers want to use rubrics or are experimenting with writing rubrics, they can be quite time-consuming to develop. RubiStar is a tool to help the teacher who wants to use rubrics but does not have the time to develop them from scratch. RubiStar provides generic rubrics that can simply be printed and used for many typical projects and research assignments. The unique thing about RubiStar, however, is that it provides these generic rubrics in a format that can be customized. The teacher can change almost all suggested text in the rubric to make it fit their own project.
  • Rubric Makers Organized by subject. These rubric generators will allow you to make grading rubrics by filling out a simple form. The materials are made instantly and can be printed directly from your computer. Your creations are exclusive to you. If you would like to keep your creations, save them when you make them.

  • Sites For Teachers Over 1000 sites listed for teachers at all grade levels and subject areas
  • Smithsonian Education Resource Library The Smithsonian Education Resource Library is a finding aid to the many education resources provided by the Smithsonian. It allows searching for lesson plans, labs, field trips, and more by grade level, subject, keyword , media, and institution. The Smithsonian Education site is subdivided into sections for teachers, students, and family. This finding aid is a great way to search all sections.
  • TeachersFirst.com Teachers First lists links to sites and lessons for Elementary, Middle School, and High School teachers and provides these lessons in subject areas that include Art, Astronomy and Space, Biology, Chemistry, Current Events, Drama and Theatre, Earth Science, Economics, Foreign Languages, Health, Interdisciplinary, Library Resources, Literature and Reading, Mathematics, Mind Stretchers, Music, Physical Education, Physics, General Science, Special Education, U. S. History, U. S. Government, World Cultures and Geography, and Writing.

  • Testing Our Schools Testing Our Schools is a timely Web site dedicated to the examination of high stakes testing in American schools. The site contains numerous interviews with educational testing experts, as well as others, such as teachers and administrators who deal with assessment on a real and practical daily basis. The site also contains information about No Child Left Behind, the challenge of standards, and a truly interesting section on testing, teaching and learning.
  • The Learning Page The Learning Page is a portal for the collections of the American Memory project from The Library of Congress. The collection represents over 7 million resources, which have been used to create lessons and activities. Also present at the site are sections about "Collection Connections," a "Community Center" and professional development. The site also offers "The Source" which is a newsletter about practical techniques for using American Memory resources. Finish your trip to the site by exploring the transcripts of the chats about interesting topics relating to social studies or participating in one.
  • WebQuests: Explanation A free workshop presented online by "Concept to Classroom," a collaboration between Thirteen Ed Online and Disney Learning Partnership. If you want to start using WebQuests, this is an excellent place to begin. This workshop is broken down into sections called Explanation, Demonstration, Exploration, and Implementation. Each section answers critical questions, provides short video clips from experts/users, and provides links to other critical information or terms when appropriate.
  • Word List Makers-Create word lists from the pre-defined word lists that are already available (subjects include: reading, writing, math, geography, science, government, Spanish, French, and German.) You can create flash cards, bingo games, word searches etc.
  • Worksheet Generator From Discovery School. Now you can create customized worksheets in less than 5 minutes! Choose from several vocabulary and math worksheet templates in the "Create a Worksheet" area. Or just use a teacher-created worksheet in our library of "Worksheets to Go"!
